I recently covered a story about a sick loggerhead turtle that miraculously ended up on the doors step of the Turtle Hospital in Marathon, Florida. Whilst snooping around the Turtle Hospital's website and blog, I found a list of tips on how people like me and you can help the sea turtles. Many species of sea turtles are endangered or threatened.

A Few Ways to Protect Sea Turtles

- Donate Find charities that protect and rehabilitate sea turtles. Why not the Turtle Hospital itself? Your donations are tax-deductible.

- Buy Eco-Friendly Seafood Ask questions before you buy. Find out how and where the seafood came from. Or you can check out Oceana's seafood guide.

- Use Less Packaging The oceans are littered with 47,000 pieces of plastic per square mile. Here are a few tips to reduce your plastic consumption:

- Shop at the farmer's market

- Employ reusable grocery bags

- Stop drinking bottled water

- Repair products instead or replacing them with new ones

- Pick Up the Fishing Line Fishing line takes 600 years to biodegrade. That's time enough to trip up generations of turtles.

- Use a Map Use a map to avoid sea grass beds while in a boat.

- Write your Congressperson Ask your legislator to help pass regulations to protect sea turtles.
