Puff Adder, the name of two unrelated snakes. One is a nonpoisonous North American species properly called the hognose snake. The other is a very poisonous species of Africa and Arabia. It lives in deserts and grasslands. The thick body, about four feet (1.2 m) long, is gray or brown with yellow markings.
The poisonous puff adder is Bitis arietans, or B. lachesis, of the family Viperidae.
