Impala, a small East African antelope. The impala stands about 3 feet (90 cm) high at the shoulder and weighs about 150 pounds (68 kg). It is reddish brown above, white beneath. Male impalas have long, ringed, lyre-shaped horns. Impalas sometimes cover 35 feet (10 m) in a single leap. They travel in herds, usually remaining near water.

The impala is Aepyceros melampus of the family Bovidae.
